About Jim Gilchriest

Here’s my story…

The first time someone asked for my help with a business problem, the problem itself eluded them.

Something was broken on our morning TV newscast, but the anchor and producer had no idea what it was, let alone how to fix it. They needed me to tell them. It was early in my career as a producer at the television station. I had little authority, but had a reputation for identifying problems with workflow and execution, so I agreed to investigate.

The next morning, I came in to observe the team first-hand and watched them scramble against an urgent deadline to get a newscast on the air. Scripts came in late. With factual errors. Videotapes out of order. The frazzled anchor tried to hide the mistakes, but the audience—our customers—noticed. As I look back, that team was my first client in consulting.

From that day to now—three decades of experience in organizational development, leading large teams and multi-million dollar, high stakes operations—I have seen many hard-working people get lost or get stuck, well-intentioned systems break down, and businesses suffer. I’m sure you’ve experienced it too. Let’s agree that feeling lost stinks. Confusion begets frustration, which begets fear…of not knowing what to do...of dreading that downward spiral.

Identifying the right formula

There is a formula for identifying your problems, getting unstuck, finding a fix and being successful. It includes specific knowledge, skills, and actions that can be taught, coached, and honed.

That TV morning show team turned it around and enjoyed tremendous success. I taught the team how to use specific systems to meet goals, how to course-correct, and about accountability. They streamlined the workflow and minimized mistakes. They produced high-quality content. And that lost producer? He got promoted into big market management.

Turning passion into productivity and growth

I am passionate about helping people and organizations win. Think of me as a business evangelist. It is my mission to help you build your team and change your culture to drive positive results. I care about people and I believe that we show how much we care by the time and attention, teaching and coaching, and training we give them.

My consulting works best with leaders like you, who crave that kind of success and just need some guidance and maybe the extra inspiration to get there. If you are stuck, if your business is spiraling and you need help to get back on track, let’s talk.
